Now here’s the other Sanders brother…when you race against either one of these boys…you know you’re going to have to fight to stay up front. Rod particularly likes to start in the rear just for the fun of coming up through the field…something he makes look easy…time and time again.
His racing career began with motor cross and then a very short stint in a 280 class hydroplane.
He started circle track racing in a mini-stock car. He was then asked to drive a Legends car
which earned him the Florida State Championship in his second year.
He also ran road course at Homestead and Sebring with PBOC.
After leaving Legends, Rod went to Pro Challenge cars because of their safety and versatility
and went on to win two Florida State Championships.
His brother Brad and he became the Florida Pro Challenge dealer
which led to the creation of Pro One Racing where they held driver schools and offered race rentals.
Continuing his racing with PBOC,
he raced such tracks as Moroso, Homestead, Sebring, Road Atlanta and Barber.
He was also a driving instructor at Sebring, Moroso and Homestead.
Then Rod felt the need for more horsepower, so he purchased a Sprint car
and raced with the USA Sprints and the Florida Non-Wing Sprints.
He also drove a TQ Midget for Jimmy McKinney with the Florida TQ Midget Association…
all the while continuing his commitment to Pro One Racing and the Pro Challenge Series.
He and his wife Melody sold their construction company and moved from Florida
to Northern Kentucky to slow down and relax. Slow down and relax…have you ever met Rod??
Obviously, that didn’t last long…
You’ll now find him racing dirt track in his 1000cc Mini Sprint car with continued success...
and if you’re lucky, you’ll catch him on one of his trips south on a track somewhere
in someone’s Pro Challenge car…here’s a man who’s never met a vehicle he couldn’t drive...
and the image of him careening around the corner at top speed is something you’ll never forget!
